DepEd Launches 'Catch-up Fridays' Nationwide to Bridge Learning Gaps and Promote Reading Proficiency

 

"Catch-up Fridays" is an innovative educational initiative introduced by the Department of Education (DepEd) to address the learning gaps and challenges faced by students, particularly in the context of the National Reading Program. This program was launched on January 12, coinciding with the nationwide observance of Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) Day.

Under the umbrella of the National Learning Recovery Program (NLRP), "Catch-up Fridays" aim to provide learners with a dedicated time and space to enhance their essential skills, with a particular focus on reading proficiency. The strategic design of the program seeks to foster a culture of reading and instill a love for learning among students.

The initiative allows students to engage in independent silent reading of their preferred materials, contributing to the improvement of their vocabulary and comprehension skills.
